Cincinnati Magazine

The good people at Cincinnati Magazine did a story this month on five individuals at an assisted living facility in Fairfield who enjoy playing Nintendo Wii for various reasons. Great story written by Kathy Y. Wilson. On newsstands now.

Metzenbaum Scissors

I know the tips look funny but they are curved and look somewhat odd from any angle. Also done in 3DS Max. Plus they are rigged for animation as well.

Cincinnati Magazine: City Guide 2009

Hey Folks,
Just thought I would let y'all know that there is a picture and small interview of me in the Cincinnati Magazine City Guide that comes out in June. I couldn't find an online link so I scanned the article and uploaded it here.......David

Sky Buckets as Inspiration

This is an image I did thinking it may be an interesting t-shirt design. The method is a digitally colored ink drawing.

Does anyone remember the sky buckets at amusement parks? This was my inspiration. I am still playing with the funky scales seen in fairy illustration.

I wonder why they don't have many of these rides anymore...

A Bird in the Drive

I've got some commercial work brewing in the studio, but nothing I can show right now. In the meantime, I thought I'd post a pic from my "chalk-o-holic" blog here for you to enjoy.
Just having fun in the driveway with the kids.

Summer Naughty, Summer Nice

Here is a poster for the next Cincinnati Roller Girls bout: Summer Naughty, Summer Nice on May 30. It was done quickly after starting out in a different direction, then I suddenly hated the old one and had to come up with a new concept quickly. I like this one better- but please forgive any drawing mistakes!

Interactive artwork

Howdy Folks,
Today at lunch we talked about how to create that would be interactive. I mentioned this project called ZoomQuilt. It is a great piece of art that involves interactivity. You just scroll up with your cursor to zoom in. It is one very long piece of artwork that you just continuously zoom into. It is very interesting and was created in Flash. You can check it out here:

Lunch was great - we had a beautiful day on the back porch of Arthur's.

Giant Squid

Speaking of scary, here is an image I did for a Weekly Reader science magazine of a giant squid a couple years ago. One of the articles I read while researching said that the calamari rings would be the size of truck tires but would not taste good. I wonder how the scientist knew?

I suspect that regardless how they would taste, they would be really tough no matter how they were cooked...

Pumpkin Stand

Just posted this on my blog, and it was suggested that I post it here as well. Why is it we all want to do what Christina suggests? Hmm. We must like her or something...

Looking for Bugs

For anyone who has a spare minute, please pay a quick visit to my portfolio Web site, click on buttons, and tell me if you find errors and bugs. I've just re-made all the pages, and surely there are a few broken links, punctuation errors and images. The site's at www.brian-hagen.com. Thanks for the trouble.

Pricing a Painting

I've been asked for a price estimate for re-creating my painting "Strange Dreams" (pictured above). The new version will measure 12" by 12", and like the original, will be painted in acrylic on pre-stretched canvas.

I'd like to ask my fellow blog members what I should consider charging - and how to better calculate the amount of time it will take. (I always underestimate the time.)

videoThis is a test rendering; background illustration by Mark Riedy, 3d sign, neon tubing & animation by me...looks better bigger! Mark did a series of these designs for a museum and we're collaborating to take it to another stage.
