Great Art Events on Main Street for Final Friday

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead: A Solo Exhibition by Anthony “Tank” Mansfield
Where: Rock Paper Scissors, 1301 Main Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
When: Final Friday March 28th, 7pm-10pm (Artist Talk 7-730pm)
Cost: Free

“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” is a solo exhibition by visual artist/illustrator Anthony “Tank” Mansfield that will open at Rock Paper Scissors on Final Friday March 28th in OTR. In 2013, Mansfield was trying to juggle working full time, writing his Masters Thesis, planning/getting married, and running the Ghost Empire Collective, all while trying to create original art. To keep up with his art making, Mansfield started to carry pieces of paper with him at all times and would create ink pen drawings in restaurants and bars. “No matter how busy I am I need to have a creative outlet, especially when I am stressed out while working on multiple projects.” What started out as a form of cheap therapy soon blossomed into a series of 100 small drawings.

The 100 drawings will be shown together as one large image/collage. The show will open at 7pm so that patrons can see the image together as one piece and take pictures with it. At 8pm, the individual drawings will be available for purchase for $5 and will be removed from the wall in real time, thus constantly changing the overall image and how it appears on the wall. The goal is to go from 100 drawings to an empty wall in a span of 2 hours. The show will also include original drawings, paintings, and illustrations that Mansfield has created for Valley of the Sun, The Cincinnati Beard Barons, and MadTree Brewing (he did the illustration for their new Sprye cans) over the past 2 years. Prints will also be for sale.

This will likely be Mansfield's last solo show for the foreseeable future in Cincinnati as the artist has started to show his work nationally over the course of the past 2 years. So far in 2014 he has had a solo show in Columbus, Oh, taken part in a group exhibition at Cricket Press in Lexington, Ky, and will be part of 2 group shows in Los Angeles this May.

The after party will be held across the street at the Drinkery where Mansfield’s art collective, Ghost Empire, will be making live art.

This Final Friday join us at the Drinkery for our latest live art and print sale. DJ Gerald and Ria the Redliner supply the music while our artists create live pieces of art together onstage. Prints will be available for sale, so take something home from First Friday besides your bar tab receipt.

I (Christina) will be there with my fellow artists for some live art!

The Book of Kells, Ireland's 9th century illuminated Gospel manuscript, is available online for free.

This is a 2013 St. Patrick's Day act of generosity from the Trinity College Library Dublin, but this resource is so stunning, I thought I'd share it now.

I saw this on FB and really liked it.

"You try. You try over and over. You experience. You experiment. You fail. Failure is the most important thing you can do while you are finding yourself as an artist. And through this process you eventually shape yourself into . . . well, you. And no matter what that looks like, be proud of it. Whatever you find yourself to be as an artist, as a creator, be the very best at it. Do your art like nobody’s business..."

This quote is from The Rabbit Room from an article called, "My Secrets Exposed: True Confessions of a Professional Illustrator" by Joe Sutphin.

Introducing Myself and Big News

Hello fellow illustrators,

My name is Hannah Graff.I am new to this blog, so I wanted to introduce myself and inform everyone on some big news that I have received.

I am a recent Art Academy of Cincinnati graduate, with a Bachelor's degree in illustration. Since graduating, I have been self promoting my work and building a portfolio. I have also been doing many freelance projects and working on selling individual works on my society6 account.

A few months ago I decided to create work to be entered in the SummerFair of Cincinnati poster Contest. A few weeks ago, I  got a call explaining that I had won the contest! I am overjoyed and truly grateful for this opportunity! I have always enjoyed going to Summer Fair and attended the event over the past four years. Its such a great event and showcases so much talent! To have my artwork be the main advertisement to this event is so amazing and its a great way to promote myself. I am truly so excited and happy to be a part of this event!

So that is my big news!!

There will be an event taking place on
April 27th
It will take place at the Malton Gallery-
3804 Edwards Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45209
that will be the big "reveal" of my Poster and artwork! I would love for anyone to come to the event, to get to know me and Vise Versa.

To see some of my work, you can visit my website -http://hannahgraffillustrations.com/

I am currently working on an online comic that I wanted to share here as well.
This comic  is a collaboration between myself and my boyfriend. It will be an online series that I will update monthly. Here is the Cover of the Comic called, Red Ved'ma

This image was created using hand drawn elements that I edited and added to in Photoshop

I am joining my boyfriend in making our own online comic. We have been brain storming and working together to create “Red Ved’ma.” We will be posting issues of our new comic on this site!

“Red Ved’ma” is the tale of Iris Veteniye, a 24 year old witch recently awoken from her self-imposed 100 year slumber. Using her day job as a funeral home assistant, Iris watches over the dead for evidence of the occult, fearful that her return may have drawn the attention of the remnants of her former coven. It’s not long before her fears are confirmed, as shadowy creatures and barbaric rituals infiltrate the city and lower the barrier that exists between her world and the horrible realms beyond.
Scott Hale is the magnificent writer, and Hannah Graff is the artist and illustrator for this new online comic, “Red Ved’ma.”
Spread the news and keep an eye out for new issues in the weeks to come!!!

So happy to be a part of this great blog!

Thanks everyone,
Hannah
