FREE SEMINAR ON CONTRACT LAW FOR ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS from Manifest

Thanks to Beth Neal on the heads up about this.

From the page:

Contracts can be a frustrating part of the art 'business'.

What is a fair contract agreement between yourself and a gallery? How do you handle contracts for freelance design work?

Three attorneys from the Cincinnati Bar Association will be joining us at the Manifest Drawing Center to discuss and answer questions about contract law for artists, makers, and designers.

Please spread the word!

This is offered free of charge at Manifest Drawing Center, 4905 Whetsel Ave., 2nd Floor, in Madisonville. (NOT at Manifest Gallery.)

Mad Max-ish Board Game

I created a bunch of character pics for a board game with a post-apocalyptic setting. Their kickstarter just went live a couple days and is going pretty strong. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1545517208/defenders-of-the-last-stand-adventure-board-game

Also, I'm heading out to Spectrum this week and I hope to see some of you there! Also, don't forget about my patreon at http://patreon.com/JoeSlucherArt

OAR Art Show Benefit

Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic would like to invite you to our fundraiser, Lil’ Bub’s Big Art Show!

The event will be held at the Leapin’ Lizard in Covington on July 17th, from7-11pm. Space will be provided for local artists to display and sell pieces to the attendees, an expected crowd of 150-200 people. There is no fee to participate in this event; but OAR will hold a silent auction with donated art pieces, and we would be grateful if you could donate a piece for the event. We will also feature attending artists in our marketing materials for the event; if you will be attending, please include in your RSVP a brief bio, and a JPEG of an art piece that represents your oeuvre.

If you are not familiar with OAR, we are a cat rescue in the Madisonville neighborhood of Cincinnati. Since 1998, OAR has offered shelter to and adopted out homeless cats; and fixed pet, stray, and feral cats to curb overpopulation and euthanasia in our area. Now, in 2015, OAR helps more than 10,000 cats annually – a feat possible only thanks to the generosity of our community.
OAR’s 2nd annual art show will feature a special guest, famous internet cat Lil’ Bub; as well as the art auction, live music, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. It will be an informal, fun, funky event, in a space with a great vibe – a perfect space to show your work!

Kyle T Webster on Art 'Contests'

We have talked about this here before, but here is a tumblr post by Kyle Webster about a recent 'contest'.

From the post:

"All they do is provide the client with tons of free art and a tiny pay day for the selected artist. I’m getting more direct with my replies to these annoying emails - the one below was in reply to an email about designing a can for Mike’s Harder Lemonade (this is a multi-million dollar brand, folks, offering to pay $7500 for winning can design… pathetic)- let’s show these companies that we don’t work for free."
