Blue Jay Slayer Release Event

This Saturday, Aurore Press presents a night of celebration on the collaboration of MATT HART and KEN HENSON and their work, BLUE JAY SLAYER. BJS contains 23 poems by Hart and is fully illustrated by Henson.

"Poems that will tickle and irritate your brain served alongside artwork that will soothe and delight it." -- Alice Bag, singer, musician, educator, feminist and author of the memoir, Violence Girl: East L. A. Rage to Hollywood Stage, A Chicana Punk Story

"BLUE JAY SLAYER was a pleasure for me to read and visually take in. The drawings are bold, brazen, hauntingly beautiful and tragic at times. I found the poetry to be thought provoking and heavy with textured wordplay...traveling far, painting a picture all on their own." -- Dave Lombardo, drum god and co-founding member of Slayer

"Human nature and desire in its truest, purest form. These poems and illustrations invite us to 'take the light / from delight and make it obvious' which I'm all to happy to do when the work is this damn good" -- Gary Jackson, poet and author of Missing You, Metropolis

MATT HART is the author of several books of poems, including Sermons and Lectures Both Blank and Relentless (Typecast Publishing, 2012), Debacle Debacle (H_NGM_N Books, 2013) and Radiant Action (forthcoming, H_NGM_N Books). Additionally, his poems, reviews, and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in numerous print and online journals, including The Academy of American Poets online, Big Bell, Cincinnati Review, Coldfront, Columbia Poetry Review, H_NGM_N, Harvard Review, Jam Tarts Magazine, jubilat, Kenyon Review online, Lungfull!, and POETRY Magazine, among others. His awards include a Pushcart Prize, a 2013 individual artist grant from The Shifting Foundation, and fellowships from both the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. A co-founder and the editor-in-chief of Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking & Light Industrial Safety, he lives in Cincinnati where he teaches at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and plays in the band TRAVEL.

A Curtis G. Lloyd Fellow at the Lloyd Library and Museum, Ken Henson is the author and illustrator of Alchemy and Astral Projection: Ecstatic Trance in the Hermetic Tradition (LLM, 2014) and the illustrated novella/grimoire HIGH GRAVITY: Werewolves, Ghosts, and Magick Most Black (Oneiric Imprint, 2015). Ken’s writings and art have been published in periodicals such as Abraxas Journal, Clavis Journal, Fiddler's Green, and The Gnostic Journal, and he has presented at SCIENTIAE, Babalon Rising, the Esoteric Book Conference, the Left Hand Path Conference, and the Occult Humanities Conference. He is an Associate Professor and the Head of Illustration at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in Ohio where he teaches studio courses and Art and the Occult.

CityBeat Feature on Carol Tyler and Gallery Show at University of Cincinnati

CityBeat did a cover feature on the super talented Carol Tyler. http://citybeat.com/cincinnati/article-34466-pages_and_perseverance.html

She also has a show opening at UC on Thursday the 28th.

From the site:

Carol Tyler: "Pages and Progress"
Jan 28th- March 10th

Award winning American cartoonist, painter, writer, educator and comedian Carol Tyler has garnered acclaim and notoriety from both her peers and the public for her vision and unabashed openness. Her illustrated autobiography Soldier’s Heart: The Campaign to Understand My WWII Veteran Father, A Daughter’s Memoir” (2015) describes the relationship she had with her father and how his PTSD shaped her childhood. The adverse affects of her upbringing results in a tale of truth, connection, and finally resolution. The recent release of the book and the tangible culmination of ten years of work come to fruition as we find Tyler exploring the next chapter of her creative endeavors. This exhibition serves as the purging of the past with fragments of past projects, objects from her past and her fathers work shop. In addition, we present a collection of artifacts from her life and studio practice, which provides a look into the mind and spirit that molds her vision of the world.

Artist Closing Reception: Thursday, March 10, from 5-7pm

Tip: Arrive 30-40 mins early, seats are first come first serve and not guaranteed depending on the crowd

Synopsis:

Michael Stone, husband, father and respected author of "How May I Help You Help Them?" is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he's scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa, who may or may not be the love of his life. A beautifully tender and absurdly humorous dreamscape, from the brilliant minds of Charlie Kaufman (SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK) and Duke Johnson ("Community" episode, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas), this stop-motion animation wonder features the vocal cast of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan and David Thewlis and a stirring strings-based score by Carter Burwell. The darkly comedic and surreal stop-motion journey of a man's long night of the soul, ANOMALISA confirms Charlie Kaufman's place amongst the most important of American filmmakers, and announces Duke Johnson as a major creative force.

Hope to see you there!

DADA LIVES - A Call for Entries

Dada  Lives!

OPEN CALL FOR EXHIBITION ENTRIES

University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Art Gallery

☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞☛☞

 Seeking  Submissions

University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College Art Gallery is planning an exhibition of contemporary dada- inspired works to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 founding of the Dada movement in Zurich and the publication of the first Dada journal, Cabaret Voltaire on May 15, 1916.

The show will run April 25 June 3, 2016, with a day of readings, performances and an evening reception on Friday, April 29, 2016. The initial number of the new journal, MetaDada: The International Journal of Dada Mining will serve as catalogue for the exhibition, with an official publication date of May 15, 2016 (the 100th anniversary of the publication of Cabaret Voltaire, edited by Hugo Ball in Zurich). See call for journal.

Seeking Dada-influenced and inflected 2D, 3D and time-based work in all media formats (collage/photomontage, drawing, painting, photography, typography and digital graphics) for the exhibition, and possible inclusion in the journal. Visual works sought also include concrete and visual poetry, scores for sound poetry, and integrated image and text works. Of special interest are proposals for readings of dada and/or fluxus-inspired poetry and dada/fluxus performance works.

Dada is not an historical art movement nor is it a style or fashion. Dada is an ancient frame of mind, given distinct form and name in the early twentieth-century, which repudiates hubris, elitism and human self-importance. Therefore, please send nonsense, lunacy, foolishness, unintelligible gibberish, and serious dialectic bullshit produced in the most elegant, refined manner feasible. Emotions, sentiment and good sense must be checked at the door (concealed carrying of such feeble weapons will not be permitted, if you want to hide something get a gun).

We want work in large quantities, as soon as humanly possible, that emerges through spontaneous action, random processes, pure chance, and sophisticated indeterminate approaches. We embrace work that skewers reason, logic, art, history, science, religion, faith, math, politics, advertising, capitalism, socialism, communism, fashion, media, philosophy, technology, sex and most other facets of human life that have led us into the inescapable and terminal cul-de-sacs of progress, growth, wealth, power, vanity and belief.

Submit work and proposals through the UC Blue Ash College Art Gallery website at:

http://www.ucblueash.edu/about/community/art-‐gallery/calls-‐for-‐entry.html

Submission Deadline March 4, 2016
Juror Notification March 14, 2016
Visual Submission Guidelines Up to 6 visual works (and 4 details or stills from video works)
Reading/Performance Guidelines 150 word proposal (with additional 3-5 sample pages of text)
