In this era of weird email issues, I have created an Illustrators Lunch email address. I will now send the weekly lunch email from that address.
It is illustratorlunch@gmail.com
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Hoppy Bunny Sketch
Like Christina said, I PROMISED to post the sketches I was giving away at the "Lost Cats" art show on the blog. Here's the first: Hoppy Bunny.
P.S. Pam and Viki, I have your prints for you. Can you send me your mailing addresses?

Email problems
If you have not gotten the email announcement this week, I am having email issues and am trying to sort them out. If you have gotten the lunch announcement in the past and did not this week, email me at wald.christina@gmail.com
I do not remove anyone from the email list unless they ask, so it is a email issue if you did not receive it.
If anyone knows about dealing with email issues, contact me...

Illustrator News: Jerry Dowling in CityBeat
Cool article about Jerry's mural in Arthur's! It also mentions the book he is finishing on Hollywood caricatures.
It is funny that the article mentions that people often ask if they can get their portrait added to the mural.

New Book Trailer: Why the Possum has a Large Grin
You all can probably tell I am really excited about this one.
I am so delighted to finally work with an author/musician. It made the trailer so fun! Yes, it is clear I watched way to many Warner Brothers cartoons as a kid...
I love this book; I hope people who read it enjoy it as much as I enjoyed illustrating it! (Out this Fall, 2012)
Warning: This song gets stuck in your head! (Although while editing, I probably listened to it 1000 times)

Neil Gaiman's Commencement Address
I know this has virally ricocheting around the web, but it is really worth watching. Gaiman says a lot about the direction media and publishing are going that I have said (more eloquently though).
It also is a good companion the the Noah Z. Jones interview that I posted a couple days ago.

Interesting Illustrator Success Story
I recently listened to this interview again after recommending it to a friend. I am not sure if I posted a link before, but it is worth doing again if I did.
It is an NPR interview (on their show The Story) with illustrator Noah Z. Jones, the creator of the Disney animated series Fish Hooks: http://thestory.org/archive/the_story_1149_Lennart_Dahlgren.mp3/view
The description from the site: Until recently, Noah Z. Jones was a freelance illustrator and stay-at-home dad living on the coast of Maine. One day he created a website, Almost Naked Animals. Someone at Disney got turned on to Noah’s work. Soon, Noah and his family moved to L.A. where Noah could work full time on a new animated series.
It is very inspiring. When you listen, start halfway through. The interview is at the midway point of the show.

Maurice Sendak (1928 - 2012)
In light of Maurice Sendak's death, I thought I'd post these excellent interviews. At least we all know why there wasn't a Where the Wild Things Are 2.

Here are a couple of photos of kid's wearing the Iguana Masks they painted at the Zoo on Children's Day, April 28th. Viki Woodworth's newly designed mask was a hit with all the kids, especially the boys.

Hi everyone. I heard this fascinating story yesterday on the drive home about New Yorker magazine covers that were never published. I thought I'd share. Enjoy!
