  2. Well done! Could you show some progress shots or wire frames? I too would like to know what you used...

Are you going to animate a launch?

  3. thanks, I built the missile and launcher units some time ago after visiting a restored site in San Francisco, and put together the rest bit by bit when I had some spare time. I'd always been fascinated/terrified as a child with the idea that one of these bases existed less than five miles from my home; when you drove to Hueston Woods outside of Oxford you could see the radars rotating, until they covered them in the 70's with domes. As it turns out that was only one of four bases in our area, the others being in Wilmington, Felicity and Dillsboro IN.

Yes it's 3DStudioMax, 2009Design. They offered the latest version in two different configurations to choose from - 2009 and 2009Design...the former is better suited for character animation and the latter for architectural and mechanical type stuff. I'll render out & post a couple of wire frames later today if you'd like. I'd like to incorporate some organic background in the above-ground portion and have a program that(supposedly) does that, but so far it has crashed the system more often than not.

  4. hahaha a launch would be cool - got to learn some other subroutines to pull THAT off...picture the space shuttle launch speeded up several times - these things had four solid fuel boosters and went up like 10-ton bottle rockets.

  5. That's pretty awesome. I've only managed to do simple Flash bits.

  6. Very cool! Odd that I knew nothing about all sorts of things going on when I was growing up in Oxford.
Like Freedom Summer and the students being trained at Western College. Or that base. Or that just down the street from me the ground was so toxic from the past that many of the kids who grew up there are sick or no longer alive. The Robinson girls-Council Harris. In sweet little Oxford. Or Fernald. I think my head was just in dreamland-or I was very protected. Of course, much was not known at all.

I'd love to try animation sometime. Right now I'm still learning Photoshop and Painter.

  7. Viki, we need to talk! Is that the same Count Harris that went to Talawanda?

  8. Yes-that's the one. Of course, now that you put me on the spot I'm hoping my facts are right. I talked to his sister(Becky?) once. I was making a plane reservation and the woman I was talking to and I both realized we were from Oxford. It was his sister-she told me then that he had died of cancer-kidney I think. I'm about 95% sure of my facts, since it's been a number of years.

I assume you know about the Robinsons? Their house was just a couple blocks from mine. On Rose Street. That's the site-Craft Alba?_where they processed urainium (hazy again on the facts)for Fernald. Debi Fuhr told me that one of the Robinson girls said there were all sorts of chemical vats just sitting on the site, it butted up to their yard. Awful stuff in our little home town. I'll be at Joan's show opening-she's a friend, so if you're there I might see you.

  10. John-Sorry I missed the opening. Was feeling crummy.
Thanks for the Facebook link. I think we should start our own-slightly older one. (though not old- eternally young) My kids begged me not to be on Facebook, but I might just have to override them. Why don't you come to an Illustrator lunch? I'll be there this week.
