Year of the Goat —or Sheep

A bit of levity for the snow day: This isn't a tradition I adhere to religiously, but when Chinese New Year rolls around, I get into doodling rats, dragons and other animals of the Chinese zodiac. This year we say goodbye to the year of the horse and hello to the sheep/goat/ram. 

Chinese New Year coincides with the beginning of Lent this year, so an Ash Wednesday goat seemed apropos.

I've been trying to sharpen my competence with vector-based art. This Easter greeting was created start-to-finish in Illustrator —something I rarely do.

Not ready to throw out my pencils though.

Holiday Card, 2010, "Bramble Jack's Repose"

Here is a piece I am working on for my holiday card, this year. I'm nearly done. I just need to clean it up a bit and add the text at the bottom. Working and finished size is 4.25"x6". The process is included here, along with one of my reference shots.

Holiday Wishes

Here is an image I did this year for my Christmas card mailing.

It was a quickie done digitally. The Snow Queen was a favorite fairy tale for me growing up-especially the illustrations in the old edition of Anderson's Fairy Tales my mom had.

This is a bit of a more upbeat stylized take but that just may be inherent to my nature...
