Poe Project Part Deux

Here are the rest of the illustrations I created for my Poe Project.

Poe project

For the past week I've been doing a (nearly) daily illustration of an Edgar Allen Poe short story, going in order in which they appear in an old Poe anthology I have. This is just a personal project, to get me drawing something other than editorial cartoons and commissions. The goal is to do each illustration in about 2 hours or less, so I'm not taking up too much of my time. I'm flying by the seat of my pants on each one, doing maybe one or two quick thumbnails, but usually I'm just diving in with my Wacom, pushing pixels around until I find an interesting shape, and then running with it. I probably should have started this earlier in October, but oh well. Here are the six I've drawn so far.

Spring Sketch

I have been meaning to post this sketch here for a while. Since things are a little quiet, I thought I would finally put it up.

I will not get to final for a long while until I get some pretty big stuff off my plate. It is a companion piece to winter. I had hoped to do all four seasons for my Christmas card, but that looks pretty unlikely now.

Maybe for 2011...

Arts Grants

In times when there are fewer jobs out there, there are some grants available out there to develop your work.
Here are a couple to get the ball rolling. If anyone knows of others, post them.

Each year, Summerfair awards four grants of $3,000 each to artists living within a 40 mile radius of Cincinnati. Awards are determined through a jury review of materials submitted by interested artists.


Deadline for the 2010 applications is Friday, August 27, 2010. All applications must be postmarked by that date - no exceptions! Winners will be announced at Summerfair's October meeting.
