Illustrators' Lunch Annual Christmas Party

Yes, it is that time of year again! The Annual Christmas Party will be 6 PM December 20th (a Sunday) at Slatt's. We have a white elephant gift exchange, sketch exchange, and everyone shows off the work they have done during the year.

Please RSVP to Christina Wald by December 14th so I can give the restaurant a head's up!

Print Trader: There's still time!

Just a last-minute reminder that the Print Trader event is coming up fast (December 1) and all of you are welcome to attend. Please e-mail Brian Steege if you are interested in bringing 3 prints and joining the swap.

If you'd like to mingle and observe, simply come on down.

A few other details:

• There will be live music by Gorilla Fish Cat.
• There are no restrictions on artwork, although prints are highly recommended.
• Prints may be signed or unsigned. It’s up to the artist.

Space Chasers

I'm teaming up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Roy Burdine to help develop his brain-child, Space Chasers (an out of this world kids adventure property). This is a piece of concept art for it that I did, and there are several more in the pipeline as well as who knows what else. The character designs of the red green yellow and blue guys were done by someone else, they were originally CG but I am doing it this way to bring some warmth to it.

Also, don't forget the Turtles Forever premiere tomorrow morning! woohoo mutants!

How do I ship a painting?

I have a 16" by 16" commissioned painting that I need to send to California. It's on canvas, stapled to stretcher bars.

I haven't the slightest idea how to get it there safely, for a reasonable price. Should I use a cardboard box filled with peanuts? Do I need to acquire carpentry skills and build a wooden protective shipping container? (This seems a bit out of my skill set.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi guys- here are some sketches I did at the Dr. Sketchy session at the Leaping Lizard Gallery in Covington, thought it would be lovely to post them here... I hope others share some too! I barely saw anyone else's work when I was there.

Print Trader

The above invitation was sent to me by acclaimed local photographer Brian Steege. He's organizing a first-time ever art trading event which takes place in Covington, KY on December 1. (I'm reminded of our impromptu drawing exchange at last year's Christmas Party, which was a lot of fun.) I have no idea what the guest list looks like so far (except for myself), but it sounds like a great way to schmooze with other artists that may not be able to get to our lunches. You might even find the perfect print for that blank space in your foyer —just in time for Christmas!

A Little Whale Fun

Here are some images from a book I did several years ago that came out and is available, but I never got any contributor copies. I had kind of forgotten about it and should check into it again.

The book featured a girl who is told about whale migration and how she imagines it in a cartoon form (she and her family are painted). It was fun to illustrate. Below you see the style contrast.
