Mad Max-ish Board Game

I created a bunch of character pics for a board game with a post-apocalyptic setting. Their kickstarter just went live a couple days and is going pretty strong. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1545517208/defenders-of-the-last-stand-adventure-board-game

Also, I'm heading out to Spectrum this week and I hope to see some of you there! Also, don't forget about my patreon at http://patreon.com/JoeSlucherArt

  1. These are great, Joe!
I particularly like the 4th one —the only one with a full background.
Looks like Annie Oakley meets Xena, Warrior Princess —not a bad thing!
    Best of luck at Spectrum!

  2. Great work Joe! How was the show at Spectrum? You should do a post. (This from the person who never did a write up on Icon).

    1. Thanks! I think making a big public post on Spectrum could only hurt me. It's always good to see a bunch of amazing artists doing cool stuff and feel really inspired to go home and do your best. On the other hand there aren't too many panels and most of them are really common sense talks. I worry that other seminars are creating artists that hurt the business. Speaking of which, unless you're a big name, I don't think anybody is making much money. Sure some of the big names are selling large original oils but the rest seem to be selling next to nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if only like 10 items were sold in the room of people with tables rather than booths. It's a low attendance con so I'd say it would be somewhat pointless to do the show as someone who only sells prints and relies on volume to make money. There are painting demos but they are in the exhibit hall so usually you can't hear the artist. Hopefully it will grow though and things can be honed. Also, I carpooled with an insane stranger so that was interesting and has left me with a lot of stories.

    2. That is really why I do not go to many conventions anymore. Even though I am very social and love that aspect, it is a big money losing effort. I do not have time to put a bunch of prints etc. together to sell and you have to make a lot to cover these trips. I prefer to have vacations in cool places than spend my trip money to spend the weekend in a ballroom but maybe that is the middle age talking...

I suppose if you are just getting started, it may be useful to meet the ADs. Have you gotten much work from these illustration oriented shows?

I look forward to your road trip stories. Did they go in a Mad Max direction?

  4. I usually do get work from the shows I go to and usually I can make an okay amount.
The road trip was closer to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest than Mad Max.
