Baby-talk

Here's the latest illustration for DVM Newsmagazine. It's about a client who talks to his pets like they're babies when he brings them in to the vet.

  1. Awesome. I'm digging the detail on the guys face with the moles.

  5. Excellent! This is one of my all-time favorite Ostranders. I like the simple composition and the distortion. You greatly improved upon the sketch by cleaning up the cat's fuzzy profile, so the viewer goes straight to the eyes. Well done!

BTW, thanks for showing the sketch. It's way more pristine than what I show my clients (sometimes I feel sorry for my clients) Do you show looser thumbnails to get concept approval?

  6. Thanks guys! I love having this project every month. People and animals interacting is a can't miss.
Chuck: Yes, I usually send a much rougher idea sketch early on - and then a final sketch prior to starting the final.

  7. Great lips! My cat looks at me like that all the time, and I don't even dress her up.

  8. Ha! Funny and expertly rendered illustration!

When I was a kid an old lady on my paper route used to dress her little dog in outfits. And kept it in a babies playpen in her front room!

I'd try and be as quiet as possible when delivering her paper but her Spidey-sense would kick in (or she was watching from behind her curtains) and I would be stuck talking to her for 10 minutes.

"Oh, look Baby! It's the paperboy! Do you want to say hi to him? Sure you do. Say hi paperboy. Do you like my plaid vest?"

I felt so sorry for that doggie...
