Critters

3 recent pieces. Still looking for work. The figures were required to be kept on separate layers. See these larger on my site.

  3. Nice work, Joe! I know this is just fantasy art, but please tell us how you might go about killing that middle one —just in case.

  4. Thanks Woody,Christina and Chuck!
Chuck-I'd say go for the middle one's little chicken legs. Stand on the other side of a body of water or put a backpack on him. I don't know if he could stand with a backpack.

  5. Haha! I was going to suggest getting one of those goetta-dogs from the Reds' Ballpark and tossing it into his gaping maw!

BTW, I checked out your site —I loved the fiery pumpkin. The Coal Golem is cool too. For me, the weird concepts are more important than the rendering, although you do both really well. Keep 'em coming!

  6. Very impressive character design and technique, Joe.

You should have assignments coming out the wazoo!

  7. Nice, Joe! The only thing I would say is to maybe loosen up a bit. There is so much implied in the way of movement, I think I'd like to see some of those hard lines broken up a bit to reinforce that movement. Otherwise, very nice. I like the clarity of light versus dark and the modeling of the forms. You've captured believable textures and lighting. What inspired these, if you don't mind me asking?

  8. Daryll- My wazoo isn't nearly as cluttered as I'd hope.
Justin-Thanks for the complements and I could certainly stand to loosen up.

Got some work to last me up until the 11th now and a book publisher just contacted me so that would be a big step up. Hopefully this means I've got the ball rolling again.
