Froggie Time!

Once upon a time, I decided to treat this blog as a place to show my work to fellow artists. Not the work that was slick and promotion-packet-ready, but the sloppy, fun, experimental stuff.

I've been slack on this goal. So here -  drawn with an old $7 set of oil pastels which I've never been able to control - is Froggie McClamworthy.

  1. Brian, I share your frustration with oil pastels!

I've actually kept a handful of sketches done with crayola crayons on cheap white paper. I've done drawings on the ground with toy-grade chalk that I'm proud of as well. I'd like to believe that every medium has possibilities —but oil pastels just won't get results in my hands.

Years back, I bought a small set of (decent) oil pastels for a figure drawing session and tried for weeks. I never got a pleasing result. Furthermore, I can't name a single artist who specializes in that medium —what's the deal with those things?

That said, this is a cute drawing and a welcome diversion —I like the blue and purple marks that swerve across the top.
It would be fun to have a special lunch (yikes, another special lunch!) where everyone brings in "improbable drawing media" and passes the tools around to see what comes up. Then post some of the weirder results. (Personally, I like combining big black markers with Pentel correction pens!)

    Thanks for posting!

  2. That is a good idea Chuck. I am all for special edition lunches :)

I like that you are posting your experiments Brian. I would like to see more.
