Printing Companies

Hello, all :)

I'm building some material for some projects I am working on. I wonder if some of you might be able to tell me which printing companies (local) are reputable and reasonably priced?

I had advanced a query to several people whilst at Teller's, not long ago. I'm in the process of building a product line of adventure games. As of now, I have more questions than I do answers, though I feel I have a firm direction in which to go. If any of you feel you may be able to shed some light on this for me, please do.

I am also going to approach some gaming contacts I have made over the years, and see where that takes me. Anyone with experience in this area, please feel free to offer advice. At the moment, I am not not comfortable divulging too much information, but I can give enough to get some answers to much needed questions.

Thanks and many regards,

Justin D. Russell

  1. Merten always does top-quality work, possibly more than you need, but get a quote and see.
I've had good results from MinuteMan Press too.

Cincinnati has a strong history for printing, so if you really want to stay local, you're in a good place.

When working with a printer, a full-sized comp (mock-up/prototype) of your booklets and packaging will make your life and the printer's much easier.

  4. Just found out about a site, openinvo.com, connecting ideas with idea seekers, sounds very interesting. Don't know if this would in any way help you, but it has potential.

  6. Also, if any of you have any idea how publishing companies work, I would appreciate any info. A friend of mine, and I, are starting a series of our own adventures. We'll be publishing them through Epic Werkes Studio, but I have no idea what legal jargon I will need to place at the beginning of the adventures. I have my business person to talk to about legal matters, but I know nothing about publishing. Right now, the products are going to be solely pdfs, which may make this type of thing easier. Any info. or names you can give would be great. I need people to talk to in publishing. I may give F&W a call, since they are local and responsible for Impact books. But, I think I also need to talk to someone in the RPG industry.

  7. Justin,
If your business person is a copyright lawyer, he should be able to tell you everything you need to know. If not, I'd suggest you start at the website of the US Copyright Office:
    http://www.copyright.gov/
If the products are pdfs, that does make things easier —for those looking for free games.
You may be able to look to existing products for the legalese, but if you are sharing copyright with a partner, that can complicate things.
