We are screening the Bio Art Doc C.F. Payne: An American Illustrator Tues @ 12:30pm @ the AAC. This screening is FREE and is open to the public. The movie is 1hr long.

The film will screen in the the Lecture Hall on the second floor.

C.F. Payne and the filmmakers will attend and be available for a short Q&A after the movie ends.

The film will screen in the University Center building.

The film is 60mins long and C.F. Payne, Woodrow J Hinton III, and Tony Moorman will be attending the event and speaking for a short Q&A after the film.

Making It Showing at the Art Academy Friday, February 27th

Come to the Art Academy Friday, February 27th, 5-8 p.m. for the screening of "Making It" followed by a Q&A with the Director Anthony Moorman and Creator Woodrow Hinton.

“Making It” is a Documentary about the daily struggles of making a living, staying creative, and making it all up as we go along. The documentary follows three Illustrators, Andrew Bawidamann, Eric Fortune, and Brian Ewing.

Greenacres Guild Artist Documentary/Interviews

While getting information for the previous post, I found a link to this really interesting compilation of local artist interviews from the Greenacres Artist Guild whose members include C. F. Payne, Loren Long, Will Hillenbrand and Bruce Erikson. There is some great stuff in here!

Tim's Vermeer Opens in Cincinnati March 14th

This is interesting. It is a documentary about how some theorize how Vermeer made his paintings. It opens at the Esquire on March 14th.

I find it interesting that so many agonize over how he made his paintings. Even if he used any camera obscura type of aid, it should not diminish the perception of the high quality of his work in any way.

Anyone who shoots photo reference for their illustrations knows that it is a long, difficult road between that and a successful painting.

Ken Burns' Thomas Hart Benton Documentary

The documentary about illustration called Making It that Woody is working on posted a link to a Ken Burns doc about Thomas Hart Benton on their Facebook page this week. I just watched it and what a fascinating life story!

"This demo was shot for Woodrow J. Hinton III in preparation for a Documentary, he and I are currently filming.

This was a great exercise for me to fully get a grasp of the actual process of making an illustration.
I filmed Woody over the course of 6 days. The Illustration approximately took 24hrs to complete. The convenient thing about shooting this demo was Woody lives 15 mins away from my home. So the access and availability to film was a fantastic advantage"

Documentary about Jeffery Catherine Jones

Here is the trailer for the new documentary about Jeffery Catherine Jones called Better Things that will premiere at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live! in Kansas City as a remembrance on the first year anniversary of Jeff's passing.

Discussion: Why Beauty Matters BBC Documentary

My friend Pat Ann sent me a link to this video:



It is an interesting thesis. I am curious what others think. Obviously, the fine art critics have always disliked illustration and do not consider it to even be art. I suppose this could be tied into the value of art discussion Scott started a couple days ago. I have to admit, I share the documentary's boredom of much modern art. I really like good drawing and illustration which is not always (or even often) a component in shows. (I am excluding sculpture although it is similar).

It is interesting that there is an increasing interest in "outsider art" which has a lot of illustration.

It was a good sign I think that the Cincinnati Art Museum did a show of C.F. Payne's work. Maybe opinions are changing?
