Jerry Dowling: Another Twelve Way Comic Sneak Peek

Just in time for the Day of the Dead, here is another page from the comic anthology by Jerry featuring a variety of zombie caricatures. Jerry's comment about the piece: "Shows what effect Marge Schott and Mike Brown have had on my brain. And those two zombies are coming in the next couple drawings."

Try to guess who each celebrity zombie used to be in life... A fresh, delicious brain for the winner!

The Wild Witch

My favorite little witch. I've posted this on my blog, but maybe some of you haven't seen it.

A Little Halloween Fun from Tim Fuller

As a Halloween treat, Tim Fuller asked that I post this cool poster he did for this year's St. Rita Haunted House.

Scarrrrrrry! Let's see some more Halloween cheer. Anyone got something spooky to post?

Remember, in blogs, no one can hear you scream...

Twelve Way with Cheese Teaser

As many of you know, a bunch of us are working on a Cincinnati Comic anthology.

This is the cover so far. Once all the interior art is finished, the little squares will be filled on the front of the paper. Many contributors to this blog are submitting work including Daryll Collins who did this cover. Dave Hartz posted some of his story a couple weeks ago.

As the book takes shape, we will post more teasers here. After I get out from under my current mountain of deadlines, I will finish some of my half-sketched story and post some of it.

Below are Tim, Viki, Jerry, myself, and Dave at our last get together to go over the content we are contributing.

We will post a pic of the whole crew hopefully in the next teaser.

The Philosophical Baby

In September, I created my first editorial illustration since the mid-eighties. The subject matter was irresistible: babies, science, humor.
Here are the two concepts I submitted:

Books By the Banks

Books by the Banks is the Saturday from 10-4 at the convention center.

Jerry Dowling, Will Hillenbrand, Tamara Schmitz, Ryan Ostrander, Chrsitina Wald, (and my friend Scotti Cohn) will be there in addition to many others!

In other book news, I noticed that Loren Long's new book Otis is #6 on the New York Times Bestsellers in Children's Picture Books. As far as I can tell, he will not be at BBTB, but his appearances are listed on his website.

Favre

Jerry's Favre has inspired me to post a sketch I did a few years ago - when he still looked youthful. Anybody else got a Favre?

Jerry Dowling: Bengals Book is out!

Jerry's much awaited book Drawing Super Wars: Cincinnati Bengals' Early Years is finally available from Edgecliff Press!

You can order your copy from the website or buy one directly from Jerry himself and get it signed. If you want a sneak peek, the whole book is on the site in PDF format.

Extraordinary Uses...

Here's a handful of spot illustrations I did for "Extraordinary Uses For Ordinary Things" —my first mail-order book for Reader's Digest. I did 150 illustrations in total —all 2-color, which not only saved a lot of time, it also helped make my kid-friendly style a bit more adult.

comic page

O.K. I now know why the image looked so weird - it was in CMYK mode instead of RGB. So here is the last page of the 4 pages that I will be bringing to Tim's on Saturday for the comic book.

Jerry Dowling Post: Brett Favre

From Jerry: Tom Richmond had a workshop last year at an NCN mini-con in St. Louis. He had about thirty of us do our version of Brett Favre and then he critiqued them. We had two hours to do what we could. Mine was three quarters inked and when I saw him at the NCS convention in Hollywood this year, I mentioned that to him and he told me to finish it and show it to him at the NCN convention in Sandusky this November. He's going to be there with Dam Viviano and Mark Frederickson. Here's my piece.

If you cannot bring it up just google muto or blublu.org
David
By the way, I just uploaded an image of my cartoon page but in the preview compose panel it showed up as a negative with strange colors so I deleted it. Does anyone know what is up with that? Has it ever happened to anyone else?
