Urban Sketching Seminar in Chicago

The group of sketcher from Chicago and all over! © Andrew Banks 2014
Vanessa Sorensen, Nora Young, Carla Franke, Carol Schwartz and I all met in Chicago for the sketch group's inaugural Urban Sketching Seminar.  (Here is their write up on their blog about the event.)

We were not the only travelers. There were other attendees from further away including Ontario!

Many who read this blog will remember that Carol moved away from Cincinnati to Milwaulkee a while ago and we all miss her at our weekly lunches!

It was a great weekend to get out in draw and photograph (check out Vanessa's awesome photography from the trip.)

Here are some of my, Carol and Vanessa's sketches:

Saturday morning, we went on a little church architectural sketch tour. This is Vanessa and my sketches from the Holy Name Cathedral. Roger Ebert's funeral was here (not while we were drawing).

Quickdraw session tomorrow

This is Glen Keane's life drawing. Search his drawings to cry.

Just a quick reminder that the Manifest Drawing Studio's Quickdraw session is tomorrow Saturday 6/7/14 from 11am-2pm.

Come and draw if you need to capture motion, have accurate anatomy, and to be able to capture life in your drawings! I'm pretty sure since we're all artists that this is needed by everyone.

Also, College and High School students get a discount!

You can register online or do so when you arrive- I am already signed up and so are some others so let's show them that we want this and that they need to do this again in the future! Support by attending!

Here is the Manifest site for more info/registering.

The drawing studio is at 4905 whetsel avenue, floor 2, madisonville, ohio.

See you there!

'Back From the Brink' Masterworks for Nature Show

June 9 - August 15, 2014

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of the last known passenger pigeon, Martha (shown at right), who died at the Cincinnati Zoo, despite attempts to find her a mate and save the species, which once numbered in the millions.
Over the course of human history, we have, unfortunately, caused the end of numerous species.
This exhibition features species that have made a comeback, showing those moments when our species has recognized our own folly and done something to make a difference. It is a quest that we still pursue.

Featuring the artistic talents of:

Masterworks for Nature
John Agnew
Linda Howard Bittner
DeVere Burt
Nancy Foureman
Ann Geise
Charley Harper
Mary Louise Holt
Debbie Lentz
John A. Ruthven
Chris Walden
