I'm a big admirer of dePaola's work —not too many writers of children's books go into the lives of Catholic saints —let alone with such reverence and elegance. I have a book on his life and art, but it rarely goes as deep as this. Much of the author's text (of the book) seems to come from simply reading and appraising his books —something I can do on my own with a library card and a bit of time.
That's a great freebie!
ReplyDeleteExcellent artist, excellent interviewer, great candid conversation.
Thanks!
I know, it is a very cool article.
