Maurice Sendak (1928 - 2012)

In light of Maurice Sendak's death, I thought I'd post these excellent interviews. At least we all know why there wasn't a Where the Wild Things Are 2.

  1. An absolute master of his art!

Also pretty gloomy. I'm not sure how many of these interviews I can take in one sitting.

  2. Thanks for posting these Nick. I just listened to the Fresh Air collection of interviews with him today: http://www.npr.org/2012/05/08/152248901/fresh-air-remembers-author-maurice-sendak

Very good but a bit of a tearjerker...

  3. He wasn't gloomy, Chuck, he was honest. Personally, I think it's refreshing to hear someone tell kids the truth, not just fairy tales. It's always more fun (and human) than someone who only writes about benign happiness all the time.

That being said, if you want humor and Sendak, check out these interviews he did on The Colbert Report this past January. (Fair wanring - these clips automatically start playing)

    Thanks for sharing, Christina!
