Animation Directors Round Table
Hi Illustrators ! The Cincinnati Animation Network is starting an Animation Director's Round Table meeting in Cincinnati that will recur regularly.
The people who will want to attend this group are people who are making their own independent animated films who are in the Cincinnati area.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide accountability, get critiques from other filmmakers if you want them, show your work, and get assistance with any technical- or any other- issues you're having with your production from others that are going through the same thing.
For example if you're getting an error in some program, someone may be able to help. if you're having trouble with motivation, we can help with that too. It's really a support group for indie animators. And hopefully we can learn from each other as well.
I have a couple of people who are interested already, myself included. Is anyone else working on their own indie project that would like to attend?
Email me, Darcy, at Cincycan@gmail.com if you want to be included in the email notifications about the group.
Location to be decided with input from the attendees!

Anomalisa Advance Screening- free tickets!
Good news! Flaming Medusa Animation hooked us up with a cool deal that means you can get free advance screening tickets to the Academy Award nominated stop-motion feature "Anomalisa".
Synopsis:
Where: The Esquire Theatre, Cincinnati OH
When: Tuesday Jan 19th, 7:30pm
Tip: Arrive 30-40 mins early, seats are not guaranteed and are first come first serve
Synopsis:
Michael Stone, husband, father and respected author of "How May I Help You Help Them?" is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he's scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa, who may or may not be the love of his life. A beautifully tender and absurdly humorous dreamscape, from the brilliant minds of Charlie Kaufman (SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK) and Duke Johnson ("Community" episode, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas), this stop-motion animation wonder features the vocal cast of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan and David Thewlis and a stirring strings-based score by Carter Burwell. The darkly comedic and surreal stop-motion journey of a man's long night of the soul, ANOMALISA confirms Charlie Kaufman's place amongst the most important of American filmmakers, and announces Duke Johnson as a major creative force.
Hope to see you there!

Event Reminder- this is tonight Thursday 8/5/15!!
Just a reminder from your local animators!
Bill Plympton's indie animated feature "Cheatin" is happening in Cincinnati this Thursday evening 8/6/15
The feature will be followed by a Skype Q+A with Bill Plympton as well. This is a great opportunity to not only see a different type of feature but also to ask questions of a man who has produced multiple features on his own and has had a lot of really big clients too. He's basically the ultimate freelancer, which is why he's called the King of Independent Animation. We are also meeting up after for a drink! Look for a group in the lobby afterward and we'll walk from there.

Indie Animation Feature Screening in Cincinnati TONIGHT only!
“Rocks In My Pockets” is a story of mystery and redemption. The film is based on true events involving the women of my family, including myself, and our battles with madness...
Tonight is the last night of screenings in Cincinnati for the independent feature "Rocks in my Pockets" by Signe Bauman. You guys NEED TO GO TODAY.
Why? It's an indie feature and we need to support each other, But aside from that this is an animated film that deals with topics like depression and sanity which means it is definitely interesting and worth watching- this is the kind of film we need more of!
"'Rocks In My Pockets' is a story of mystery and redemption. The film is based on true events involving the women of my family, including myself, and our battles with madness. It raises questions of how much family genetics determine who we are and if it is possible to outsmart one’s own DNA. The film is packed with visual metaphors, surreal images and my twisted sense of humor. It is an animated tale full of art, women, strange daring stories, Latvian accents, history, nature, adventure and more.
The idea for 'Rocks In My Pockets’ came from my stream of consciousness. Like most people I think about a wide variety of things, some fantastical, some mundane, but my mind keeps coming back to thoughts of “ending it all” and the ways I could go about doing it. Why? Why do I think this way? And why I am still alive despite such thoughts? I find the fragility of our minds fascinating. Life is strange, unpredictable, sometimes absurd and I try to see the humor in it all." - Signe Bauman
I would love to hear what you guys think after you see it- since I am out of town I can't see it until next week so I'd love to hear your reviews!
