Community Education at the Art Academy of Cincinnati will present "Painting & Technique", a part of the Master Workshop Series, with AAC Professor David Michael Beck. Join an intimate group at the Academy's historic OTR location where students will learn directly from the beloved Cincinnati Fine Artist & Illustrator.

Class is limited to 20 students.
Painting & Technique ( Traditional Landscape, Urban Landscape & Contemporary Narrative)
Description: In this intensive workshop, painters will have an opportunity to study complex theory and composition impact. The course will include teacher demonstrations of technique highlights and references for further independent study. Concentration is on illustrative method of painting and the introduction of specific color and glazing technique. Nuances demonstrated in this intimate setting include perspective, contrast, color theory, glazing, monochromatic tonal grisaille painting, deep space scenarios and quick tips to economize time.
Level: Advanced
Previous painting experience is essential. Students are required to bring their finished drawing on the their selected substrate, so they are prepared to begin the painting process during the first class session.
Materials Required: Final drawing on canvas, linen, wood panel, or illustration board. Oil and acrylic paints, brushes, pallet, solvent, (mineral spirits, turpentine), etc. ALL materials necessary to complete a painting independently. Easels will be provided,...no other materials.

Jokes, Mazes and Storytime.
Viki has done many wonderful maze books and hidden picture books for Highlights Magazine and Dover Publications and Vanessa has done some amazing cat, bird and joke books will be at the gallery tomorrow drawing, reading and talking mazes!

Illustrator News: David Mack Art Demo at Manifest

PUBLIC DRAWING DEMONSTRATION AND LIVE AUCTION TO BENEFIT THE DRAWING CENTER
by DAVID MACK Admission: $20 (Student Rate: $10*) to support Drawing Center programming. Register and pay ticket price online, or payment at the door by cash. THE EVENT Continuing Manifest's series of live public artist demonstrations, comic book artist and writer David Mack will create multiple drawings from the live model in front of a watching audience. Mack is best known for his work in watercolor and collage, however this demonstration will highlight his ink and brush practice recently featured in an exhibition including works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele at Century Guild in Los Angeles and Chicago. Audience participants are encouraged to observe, ask questions, and gain insight from the artist’s process. Mack’s drawings will be up for bidding in an auction during the demonstration. The drawings will be awarded to the highest bidders after the event (auction details forthcoming). The demonstration will begin at 5:00 pm, with a brief wine and cheese intermission part way through. On-street parking is available on Madison and Whetsel Avenue. The number 11 bus stops on Madison, one block from the Drawing Center. REGISTRATION AND SEATING Registration and pre-payment online reserves your seat. On-site registration and payment will be on a first-come first-served basis with casual seating and standing room after seats are filled. Doors will open at 4pm. Register early to reserve your spot! Nationally know artist and illustrator Jim Effler gives us a vivid look into his style and technique for creating the beautiful images we have become accustomed to seeing around our town. This part demo, part studio workshop will help you expand your skill and approach to your portrait work and show you unique techniques for a successful painting.
Lunch will be provided. A clothed model will be present.

Craig Cleveland: Looking for Speakers to Talk to His High School Students
From Craig Cleveland: I will be heading the new GRAPHIC DESIGN CLASSES at Covington Catholic High School. It is a brand new program, and I am crating the curriculum. So if anyone out there would be interested in speaking this Fall, we are needing a few speakers to present their work. It would be a GREAT thing to pass on to the kids (sophomores thru Seniors).
