Personal Piece

I've been A.W.O.L. from blogging too long, so I'm sharing a piece that finally came together last night. There's a story waiting to be born in here.

  1. Or you could try to drag it down the stairs by one foot.

  2. This is funny on many levels. The elephant's eyes are so insane...

  3. There is a story here for sure. And not a happy one... Is this related to anything, Brian? or purely from imagination? I'm really intrigued by it. I'm with Christina on the elephant's eyes-insane! I'd run the minute I saw him.

  4. The elephant will haunt my dreams.

  5. No planning. I gave myself a few compositional challenges, throwing down horizonal, vertical, and diagonal lines. I decided the size of the characters, the elephant grew out of random lines while the bird's been in my imagination a while.

The penciled dialogue got changed several times, and then scratched on the door one uncomfortable evening.

  6. Brian, If you go further with this, I'd recommend working with the shadowy slab on the right. The elephant's definitely leaving a civilization that jerked him around. Where's he going? the rocks on the left suggest wilderness. The wall on the right suggests otherwise, but it also suggests that the artist is undecided. Can something be carved into that wall? something primitive? Or could that wall be carefully arranged rocks. There's possibilities there. Maybe some creature oughta be lurking there.

    decisions, decisions.... :-)
