The Flames of Desire Will Burn Your Soul

Well, scratch one off my Bucket List/ Life List/ To-Do-List. I did my first Fantasy painting and entered it in the Spectrum Fantastic Art Sci-Fi Fantasy Competition. Don't have a chance of winning and getting into the Spectrum 18 book....not competing against artists like David Bowers and Andrea Kowch. But the important thing for me was that I used my imagination and for the first time painted something that I couldn't see with my own two eyes.

I'm afraid that this painting looks a little more like Norman Rockwell's version of Fantasy...rather than something by Boris Vallejo. Guess my Dark Side isn't so dark after all...........

  2. The painting is 24x48". I'm planning on printing it on canvas 18x36"....and we'll see if anyone at Summerfair buys it. My usual customers are older women....so I don't know how my new paintings will go over.

  3. Wow! That is really large. Who photographs you paintings?

I confess I work rather small so I can scan it.

I would like to see more pieces like this. It has a Juxtopoz quality.

  4. I get them scanned at Robin Imaging on Central Parkway. It costs around $100, but you end up with a file that's about 300 mgs so I can print really large.

  7. I'm curious why do you think your work looks more like Rockwell than Vallejo/Bell? Did you want it to look like a Boris Vallejo painting?

You never know what will make it into Spectrum. When they judge the art it doesn't have artist's names on it. The judges are always changing too! You just have to try!

I was fortunate to make it in the book last year and when I submited for 2011 I was thinking it's kind of a crap shoot. But I won't know unless I try.
    Good Luck!

  8. No, I didn't want it to look like a Vallejo. I just think the girl looks kinda wholesome and sweet...despite the Souls Burning In Hell on her skirt. That's just my painting style. I do like how her sweetness contrasts with the other images in the painting.
