Cover Design-a-palooza: Time to Vote on Wordsworth!

I am working on a joint venture with author Scotti Cohn on her cool YA novel, Wordsworth and the Dragon. I have done 6 cover sketches and we have a poll set up. Vote on your favorite at the link below.

  1. I vote for sketch 2 (the dragon in the shape of a 'C'). All are awesome sketches, though!

  2. We have a poll on the website if you want to vote. I am not sure which I like best... I lean toward 4, but 2 could be really striking.

  5. All of these are really appealing in ways, and show an impressive effort to explore the possibilities.
It's hard to cast a vote when the content of the book and the target audience is a mystery.

If you plan on taking the winning concept and going straight to final, I'd say that concept 1 is the closest to finished and the safest.
If you are planning on developing the winning concept further, I'd pick 2 or 3.
If this book is for very young children, or girls only, I'd be more likely to go for 4
If the horned character is really important in the story, I'd be more likely to vote for 5
If a film is in the works, and the art will double as a movie poster: 6.

  6. Very thoughtful comments Chuck, I know you deleted the type critique, but that is helpful too. The type will change with the final. I will put a lot more thought into it when I choose the design I will go with. Plus, a lot changes with color. I have had a lot of fun with the sketches.

6 does have a Goonies feel doesn't it? I just noticed...

  7. Thanks, Christina. Whichever one you go with, It'll look great!
I deleted the comment, because it was just too long-winded. I try to write relevant responses, but I have to be careful I'm not boring our readers to tears, either.

Funny comment about the Goonies! I don't remember that poster, but in the 80's posters (good as they were) sort of threw everything —including the kitchen sink —at you.
