Jerry Dowling: Kings Island Map

From Jerry: Justin Asked to see this. It was done as a limited edition poster and I had to sign 1000 of them. Had to do two or three comps before approval and even then had to change the milestones because they looked too much like tombstones. No photoshop layers in those days. Lots of whiteout and sprays. Colored inks.

We snuck in one of the bosses after he had approved the final, unbeknownst to him. Try to find him.

  1. Forget the bosses —I'm scouring the piece looking for the Brady Bunch!

This is amazing, Jerry. If I had to render this 3 times, I think it would end up being my only project of the year. Nice job!

BTW, If this was done in 1997, Photoshop probably did have layers. But with something this complex, it may have just compounded your problems.

  2. You must have an astounding amount of patience, of which I am extremely jealous. Great piece, and congratulations to you for completing something I would consider so daunting.

  3. WOW - simply amazing Jerry...even the lettering has illustrated people in it! How big was the final art? Was this owned Paramount at that time - don't have a clue who the bosses were but I'll guess the happy sun wearing glasses...

  4. That's an outstanding piece Jerry! And a whole lot of illustration that had to be approved. Three revisions equals twenty one middle management types sticking their two cents worth into the process!

If your boss was Fred Flintstone, then he's standing by the 1984 sign.

  5. Nice, Jerry :) I'm really glad you put this up. I wish we could have those days back. I'd be more at home, I think. This world's too fast. I forgot about the Smurf ride. Man, that jogged some memories. Nice line work, Jerry. I'm really impressed and inspired. Thanks for putting this up.
