Flaming Medusa Studios is Born

Cincinnati, Ohio (April 26, 2010)- DarcyVDesign, Inc. last appeared in the news in conjunction with the creation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Movie. Now the company would like to announce that it is renamed Flaming Medusa Studios Inc. beginning April 26, 2010.

The name change is being carried out to further focus the company’s branding on animation, and to reflect the company’s strengths, personality, and belief system.

The mythological figure of Medusa was chosen to represent the company because of her fame in ancient lore, and because of Medusa’s inherent ability to captivate. The underlying feminist thread of her tale also provides food for thought for the woman-owned company.

About mythological Medusa
The legend of Medusa originated in Libya, where she was worshipped as a serpent-goddess. Her tale then moved to Greece where she assumed the name Medusa, the translation of which means “sovereign female wisdom” in several languages. The idea of Medusa’s head as a threat or weapon was also developed during that time. Some researchers view her eventual beheading as a symbolic silencing of female wisdom and expression.

Medusa’s famous serpentine hair also adds to her mythology. The serpent is representative of the cycles of nature. It also symbolizes immortality, as the serpent was at one point believed to shed its skin indefinitely.

Darcy Vorhees-Enquirer Article

Check out the article they did about Darcy in the Enquirer. It is a great profile in the Sunday, November 22nd Cincinnati Enquirer about the 25th anniversary Turtles Forever movie she worked on and mentioned previously in this blog entry.

Space Chasers

I'm teaming up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Roy Burdine to help develop his brain-child, Space Chasers (an out of this world kids adventure property). This is a piece of concept art for it that I did, and there are several more in the pipeline as well as who knows what else. The character designs of the red green yellow and blue guys were done by someone else, they were originally CG but I am doing it this way to bring some warmth to it.

Also, don't forget the Turtles Forever premiere tomorrow morning! woohoo mutants!

Sketches from Dr. Sketchy

Hi guys- here are some sketches I did at the Dr. Sketchy session at the Leaping Lizard Gallery in Covington, thought it would be lovely to post them here... I hope others share some too! I barely saw anyone else's work when I was there.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Movie

I just got confirmation that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Movie, Turtles Forever, will be playing on Saturday Nov 21st at 10:00 am on the CW.

I did storyboarding on that movie, hence why I am psyched!

I am going to soon be uploading turtles board samples to my website to celebrate, I am so glad to have had the chance to participate in the show!

(ps, no I didnt draw this image)

Cincinnati Rollergirls Fundraiser

I thought I would post this, I don't know if it is still available or not. This is the piece (I am calling it "Lazervision") I put in the Cincinnati Rollergirls Art show, the show ends on Aug 1st. It is a new style that I am developing, I like that it's kind of crazier and messier than my digital work. I am interested in hearing what you guys think of it too.

Cincinnati Rollergirls- Battle of the Buckeye

Hey everyone, once you're done with Christina's book signing on Saturday the 20th you could come on over to the Gardens for the Cincinnati Rollergirls' final home bout! I did this poster for it, at first it was challenging for me to figure out how to indicate that it was a battle between Cincy and Columbus without using a buckeye or a plant or anything because those things arent really recognizeable to me (especially if I drew it in my style)- but hey I think the flag works and is more exciting.

Also, We are now selling posters of each bout of the season, as well as a "value" set of all five home bouts - and we're getting our first t-shirt in soon! I am manufacturing all of this stuff through my company, and it's been fun so far, and I'm glad that CRG came to an agreement about it with me! All of this stuff is available at the bouts, and we also have an online store now: www.derbyrama.com

If you come on Saturday be sure to say hi, I'll be at the merch booth!

Summer Naughty, Summer Nice

Here is a poster for the next Cincinnati Roller Girls bout: Summer Naughty, Summer Nice on May 30. It was done quickly after starting out in a different direction, then I suddenly hated the old one and had to come up with a new concept quickly. I like this one better- but please forgive any drawing mistakes!

Momma Said knock You Out

Another poster for the Cincinnati Rollergirls- their next bout is on May 9th. Mosey on down to www.cincinnatirollergirls.com for more info, I'll be attending this one!

Cincinnati Roller Girls Poster

This is a poster I recently completed for the Cincinnati Rollergirls' upcoming April 11th Bout. The bout is called "Some Bunny's Gonna get Hurt," and it's at the Cincinnati Gardens. I recommend that anyone who hasn't seen derby see it right this second! Or on April 11th anyway...you can find out or about the event at www.cincinnatirollergirls.com
